MADISON

Madison:
HISTORIC. QUAINT. CHARMING.

Located in Morgan County, Madison is about 60 miles east of Atlanta on I-20. It is adjacent to Georgia’s Lake Country, state and national parks and wildlife refuges, and other small towns like Social Circle and Greensboro.

Madison was incorporated in 1809 and named after President James Madison. In the early 1800’s it was described as “the most cultured and aristocratic town on the stagecoach route from Charleston to New Orleans.” Many believe that General Sherman spared the town because it was too beautiful to burn during his March to the Sea.
